Ticking a box in a classic to-do list takes half a second and leaves almost no trace. We wanted something else.
When you complete a quest in RPG Habit, several things happen at once: an XP gain calculated from the habit’s difficulty and consistency, a check of your current streak, and sometimes a level milestone that in turn unlocks new cosmetic items for your character.
The XP calculation is non-linear on purpose. The first habits you complete each day earn a little more, to reward getting started — often the hardest part. The following ones earn a little less, so nobody is tempted to stack easy micro-tasks just to pump up the counter.
We also resisted the temptation to add a notification for every XP gain. Too much noise kills the signal: if everything is celebrated, nothing really is. Instead, the milestones that matter — a level, an achievement, a streak crossing a symbolic threshold — are highlighted, and the rest stays quiet.
None of this makes sense if the habit itself brings you nothing in real life. The game is there to help you keep going, not to replace the reason you started.
